Alexandria, VA - August 20, 2012 -- A new immigration policy recently launched by the Obama Administration could backfire when senior voters head for the polls this fall. Seventy-seven percent of Senior Americans do not agree with the new "deferred action" immigration policy, according to a new poll conducted by The Senior Citizens League,one of the nation's largest nonpartisan seniors groups. "The new policy would provide as many as 1.2 million illegal immigrants with a path to Social Security benefits and add huge new future liabilities to the program," says TSCL Chairman Larry Hyland..One new cosponsor also signed on to Rep. Allyson Schwartz's Medicare Physician Payment Innovation Act this week, bringing the total up to thirty-one. The new cosponsor is Rep. Tom Latham. If signed into law, Rep. Schwartz's bill would repeal and replace the faulty formula that is used to determine reimbursements for doctors who treat Medicare patients. The current formula breeds uncertainty within the program, and H.R. 574 would establish much-needed stability..If you are under age 65 and uninsured, be sure to claim the correct income if you purchase health insurance through or a state health insurance exchange. When you purchase health insurance through the federal or a state health insurance exchange, you may qualify for a subsidy that helps lower the costs of your premiums. In reality that subsidy is an advance tax credit based on income. If you received a subsidy in 2014, and your income is higher than you estimated, you could wind up having to pay some or even all of it back at tax time. If your income has gone up, contact or your state insurance exchange to update your information.
